At Beyond Boundaries, we believe that the right match between mentors and mentees is crucial for a successful mentorship experience. Our selection process is designed to identify individuals who are not only qualified but also committed to the mentorship journey.
We look for specific qualities and criteria in both mentors and mentees to ensure that all participants can benefit fully from the programme. The selection process typically includes application review, interviews, and reference checks when applicable.

Commitment to Learning
We look for mentees who demonstrate a genuine desire for growth and learning. This includes:
- A strong desire to enhance knowledge and skills in your chosen field of IT
- Willingness to receive feedback and apply it constructively
- The ability to dedicate time and effort to actively engage in the mentorship programme
- Evidence of self-directed learning and initiative in your career development
Clear Career Goals
Successful mentees typically have defined professional objectives they want to achieve through mentorship:
- Specific, achievable goals for your tech career
- A vision for how mentorship will help you overcome barriers or challenges
- Realistic expectations about the mentorship process and outcomes
- An openness to adapting goals based on mentor feedback and new insights
Relevance of Field
We select mentees whose interests align with our programme's focus areas:
- Interest or experience in one of our focus areas: software development, quality assurance, DevOps, data analytics, design, product management, etc.
- At least basic knowledge or skills in your chosen field (this could be through education, self-learning, or work experience)
- A clear understanding of how our mentorship can specifically benefit your development in your field

- Access to necessary technology for remote mentoring sessions (computer, internet, etc.)
Mentor Selection Criteria
Professional Expertise
We select mentors with substantial experience and knowledge in their field:
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in your area of expertise
- Demonstrated technical or professional knowledge and accomplishments
- Current involvement in the tech industry to ensure relevant and up-to-date guidance
- Professional achievements that showcase your expertise and leadership
Communication Skills
Effective mentorship requires strong communication abilities:
- The ability to explain complex concepts clearly and accessibly
- Strong listening skills and empathy for mentees' challenges
- Patience and adaptability in communication styles
- Constructive feedback skills that encourage growth and learning
- Fluency in English (as mentoring sessions are conducted in English)
Commitment to Mentorship
We look for mentors who are genuinely dedicated to the mentorship process:
- Willingness to commit at least 2-4 hours per month to mentoring activities
- Dedication to maintaining regular communication with mentees
- Enthusiasm for sharing knowledge and helping others grow
- Previous mentoring experience is valued but not required
- Commitment to the full duration of the mentorship programme (typically 6 months)
